The Cappuccino Club Strategy

The Strategy of The Cappuccino Club has two main components; one is to provide university-level education to Filipino young adults who would otherwise, due to financial constraints, be unable to pursue tertiary level studies. And secondly, to develop the candidates into influential people of integrity through a contextualized mentoring program, with the intention that as young men and women of influence they might become change-agents in their immediate communities and beyond.

In order to do this well and create the greatest potential for long-term impact, it is important that we hold to some carefully established selection criteria as well as provide excellent structures to enable the candidate to excel both academically and in character development during their involvement with the program.

The Cappuccino Club Candidate Selection Criteria

Academic Considerations

The tertiary course to be studied must not exceed the academic ability of the candidate in question. A suitable course must be found that is most suited to the academic ability and ambition of the candidate.

Ethical Considerations

The candidate has shown in the past a good work ethic, discipline and self-motivation and has a genuine desire to further their education and assist their family out of multi-generational poverty. They also give evidence of a willingness to serve the interests of others rather than just their own interests.

Financial Considerations

The candidate's family must be incapable of meeting the costs for University-level education under normal circumstances due to their impoverished circumstances.

The Support Structures to Assist The Cappuccino Club Candidates

It is critical that we have workable structures in place to ensure the financial integrity of this program as well as to offer guidance and accountability to The Cappuccino Club candidates during the course of their involvement within the program. We have chosen to coordinate all on-field activities associated with the Cappuccino Club through a network of local churches that have a proven track record of trustworthiness and integrity in such matters. However, it is also critical that strong administrative structures also exist in the off-field operations of The Cappuccino Club.
